Geometry
Enjoyed Topic
1. This semester in Geometry we have learned a great deal of new concepts. Those concepts ranging from the different angles through finding the interior and exterior angle sums. Although the geometry unit that I enjoyed learning about the most was Chapter 2 Reasoning in Geometry. The concept in that chapter that I really nailed was describing a pattern in a sequence of numbers through an equation. That is something I have struggled with in my past math classes, and to know that I completely understand it is reassuring.
Problem of the Week
2. The POW that I found hard yet fun was the peg-board triangles. At first glance it seems like it is easy, although once you get half way done it becomes very difficult. It required a lot of trial-and-error and difficult thinking. To complete this problem, I had to think in a different way that I had before. Although it was hard, it was relieving to finish it and receive a 10/10.
3. J.H Poincare (1854-1912) " The mathematician does not study pure mathematics because it is useful; he studies it because he delights in it and he delights in it beauty."
At the beginning of the semester in math, I would look at Kathy like she was crazy when she would exclaim that math is beautiful. Although towards the end of the trimester I finally started to realize what she meant. As we studied triangle and angle conjectures I stared to see it. Just how everything in math is tied together and works together. If your trying to figure out the sum of a group of angles, even when just one is wrong they all are wrong. Although the beauty of it is when one is correct the rest are. That is the beauty of math, everything works in sync to create an answer.
